Rigid core luxury vinyl is a glueless format with a click locking installation system. Two types of rigid core luxury vinyl are Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) and Water- proof Plastic Composite (WPC). SPC ooring contains a solid, waterproof core that won’t ripple or swell no matter how much liquid you subject it to. This core is ultra-dense with no foaming agents like you’ll nd in traditional WPC ooring. It gives you slightly less softness underfoot, but it makes the ooring extra durable.
WPC stands for wood-plastic composite, which makes up the waterproof core. The WPC core is enhanced with a foaming agent, making it slightly softer and more comfortable in addition to being completely waterproof. It is luxury vinyl ooring amped up a notch with a special waterproof core that makes it perfect for any room in the house.
Originally, WPC was an acronym for wood plastic composite, with the core composed of wood dust, PVC, calcium carbonate (limestone), llers and foaming agents. Ultimately the wood dust was removed from the composition due to adversely aecting the dimensional stability, and the WPC acronym came to signify a waterproof core.
SPC and WPC vinyl oors are very similar. Both are waterproof easy to install, and are built to stand the test of time. But there are some things to weight out when choosing which one to go with.
SPC
If you have a busy house hold with dogs, cats, and kids, the SPC would be a great option, as it can hold up extremely well in high trac. It would also be an amazing choice for rooms with heavy objects like a home gym. This ooring can handle dings and scratched much better than WPC ooring. Just make sure you are buying a good wear layer. SPC is a thinner material that oers much less cushion underfoot. So if you hate walking on hard surface you may want to consider WPC.
WPC
When it comes to how the ooring feels underfoot, WPC vinyl has the advantage. Because it has a thicker core compared to SPC ooring, it feels more stable and cushioned when walk- ing on it. That thickness also helps to provide insulation to keep the oors warmer.
